Canoe Island

Canoe Island is a 47-acre, privately-owned island, known for the most part by annual French culture summer camps. The Island is located between Shaw and Lopez Island along the Washington State Ferry route from Anacortes to Friday Harbor. It is forested with cedar, madrona, fir, and hemlock trees.

The French Camp got its start in 1969 by the Austin family, who were looking for a local French camp for their daughter, found none, and so began their own. (The Camp actually began on Orcas Island, and moved to it's present location on the Island in 1975.)
