Strawberry Island

Strawberry Island is located near Cypress Island. The island is a popular place for kayakers, visitors staying just for the day. There is no overnight camping or fires. The story goes that explorer, Charles Wilkes, found wild strawberries on the island and gave it the name Hautboy, after the variety of strawberry. In time the more common name Strawberry became official. This island is sometimes confused with another like-named Island with a history of smuggling and subterfuge. This island, however, is simply home to the wild strawberries that remain popular to humans and animals alike.
