Brown Island is the little island you see when you're looking out over the water from the Friday Harbor ferry dock. It's a privately-owned island of about 70 acres that has been divided into one-acre waterfront lots, leaving a central commonly-owned area. Like most of the other islands in the San Juan Archipelago, there are no cars or ferry service. Residents and visitors to the island moor their boats at one of the community docks or use a water taxi service to travel between there and San Juan.
